Equipment Upgrades: Computers & Consoles
Even the most-skilled divers rely on their equipment in an underwater excursion. The watery depths are full of unknowns. And while that is part of the allure, it also calls for the utmost in preparation. A personal dive computer and a sold set of gauges are the diver's best friend.
At Aquanauts, we offer a range of instruments that combine cutting-edge technology simple usability. We offer only one brand of computers: Suunto, the choice of professional divers worldwide. Each standard equipment package includes an entry-level Suunto Gekko computer and Suunto compass. However, by choosing a model below, you can upgrade to a computer with more features and style, as well as upgrade the standard Scubapro and Mares depth- and pressure-gauge consoles..

Vyper 2The Vyper 2, all new for 2007, is a moderate upgrade from the Gekko model supplied standard in all Aquanauts professional internships. This new model includes the electronic compass used in the D6/D9 line. The Vyper includes the backlight, PC integration, dive simulator and Gauge Mode the Gekko lacks. It also has a deeper maximum depth display of 150m, vs 99m for the Gekko; and lets users select four different data-sampling rates, vs. only one for the Gekko |
Vytec DSMost upgraders skip over the Vyper in favor of the Vytec DS, Suunto's most-capable non-wristwatch computer. The Vytec includes all the features of the Vyper, plus optional wireless air integration, 3 gas mixes, deep-stop calculations for technical divers, data sampling at five different rates, a consumed bottom time graph and adjustable backlight duration. |
StingerThe Stinger was Suunto's first wristwatch-style dive computer Available in stainless steel or titanium, the Stinger is a beefy instrument that offers regular watch and stopwatch functions and a fire/gauge mode that the Vytec lacks. The Stinger, however, has no air integration nor the tech-diving features of the Vytec. It also lacks the Vytec's adjustable backlight duration or consumed bottom-time graph. |

MosquitoThe mosquito is a smaller, lighter Stinger. With a smaller display and plastic case, it's both easier on the wrist and the wallet. But it also has a lower maximum depth display of 99m, vs. the Stinger's 150m and has no Gauge Mode. |
D6The newest computer in the Suunto line, the D6 hits the "sweet spot" for performance and price. The D6 is virtually identical to the D9 except for four differences: The D6 offers no air integration, has a maximum depth of 150m (vs. 200 for the D9) and offers only 2 gas mixes, vs. 3 for the D9. The fourth difference is price: The D6 is nearly half the price of the D9. If you're happy monitoring your air with a gauge, the D6 may be the computer for you. |
D9The D9, Suunto's top-of-the-line dive computer, may be the perfect dive instrument. The D9 includes all of the features of the Vytec in a slim and stylish stainless steel wristwatch. The D9 was also the first Suunto computer to include an electronic digital compass that makes following a bear as easy as looking at the arrow on the display. The D9 also has a maximum depth of 200m. The only knock the D9 (and its sister D6 model) gets is that you may find the display a bit small. |

The Suunto 3-inline Console is for those who don't want a compass or even a computer on your wrist. The console consists of a Suunto pressure gauge, depth gauge and the same SK-7 compass supplied standard in all Aquanauts internships. The console is available in two configurations: with computer or without. For those wanting a streamlined dive profile, you can trade in your Mares/Scubapro console, wrist compass and wrist computer (Gekko, Vyper or Vytec) and we'll replace the Suunto depth gauge with your computer. Or, for those who wish to keep their compass on their wrist and use the depth gauge as a backup, you can simply trade in your Mares/Scubapro console, the compass and purchase the console upgrade. This sturdy 3-way console includes the same depth and pressure gauges, but features fine Aqua Lung instruments in a design that will take any bumps along the way. | For those with a Scubapro package, there's a choice. You can trade in your standard VIP 2 Compact Console Suunto SK7- wrist compass and upgrade to the Compact Console 3. This 3-way console includes the same depth and pressure gauges, but includes a Scubapro Analog Compass. |
