8 PADI Specialty Courses & Master Scuba Diver Certification

While PADI's core courses adequately prepare you to become a Divemaster or Open Water Instructor, to become truly skilled and employable, you need to round out your experience with PADI Specialty Courses. Our 2008 Skills Enhancement Course includes the six most-practical and marketable courses you can take. You'll get:

1. PADI National Geographic Diver -- Out of 225 PADI dive centers in Thailand, Only Aquanauts and six others have earned the prestigeous PADI National Geographic Diver certification. As a National Geographic Diver, you'll gain deep experience into marine plants, vertibrate and invertibrate animals and document the natural and human impact on the area's dive sites. (f you are joining Aquanauts as an uncertified diver, you will do this course as part of a combined with PADI Naitonal Geographic Open Water Diver course.)
2. Project AWARE -- Learn about the plight of worldwide aquatic ecosystems and how you can protect them. This classroom-based course covers aquatic ecosystem degradation and the conservation measures protecting aquatic resources. This includes the Project AWARE philosophy, the importance and interdependence of worldwide aquatic ecosystems, current issues regarding fisheries, coastal zone management and marine pollution as well as the status of several critically degraded marine environments and how you can help.
3. Project AWARE: Coral Reef Conservation -- Coral Reef Conservation Specialty course teaches divers, snorkelers and nondivers about the vital role of coral reefs in the marine environment. The course also familiarizes participants with the current state of the world's coral reefs and how they can help.
4. Underwater Naturalist -- This course is an introduction to the underwater aquatic environment and will help develop safe and responsible aquatic life interaction techniques. You'll learn underwater naturalist dive planning, organization, procedures, techniques and potential problems. You'll also get an overview of the major aquatic life groupings, interactions and factual information that dispels negative myths.
5. Deep Diver -- Before you can take take the Instructor Exam you need to have done a "deep" dive to the 40-meter recreational dive limit. This is the course that gets you certified to dive to that depth.
6. Peak Performance Buoyancy -- Improve your buoyancy and underwater control with the Peak Performance Buoyancy course. It's also one of just 3 PADI specialties you can teach as an OWSI, Peak Performance Buoyancy is a must-take course. After all, if you're going to teach it, you'll want to have taken the class as a student first!
7. Underwater Navigator -- One of the most important skills you need is the ability to navigate with a compass. You'll often have to rely on it to get you back to where you started. So take the class early in your internship and find your way to better training!

• PADI Master Scuba Diver Certification -- Once you reach Rescue Diver and complete the five courses above, you'll be certified a Master Scuba Diver, the highest non-professional certification PADI offers and a great stepping stone to the professional Divemaster program.
