8 PADI Specialty Courses & Master Scuba Diver Certification
While PADI's core courses adequately prepare you to become a Divemaster or Open Water Instructor, to become truly skilled and employable, you need to round out your experience with PADI Specialty Courses. Our 2008 Skills Enhancement Course includes the six most-practical and marketable courses you can take. You'll get:
What Are the 8 Free Specialty Courses?
- PADI National Geographic Diver -- Out of 225 PADI dive centers in Thailand, Only Aquanauts and six others have earned the prestigeous PADI National Geographic Diver certification. As a National Geographic Diver, you'll gain deep experience into marine plants, vertibrate and invertibrate animals and document the natural and human impact on the area's dive sites. (f you are joining Aquanauts as an uncertified diver, you will do this course as part of a combined with PADI Naitonal Geographic Open Water Diver course.)

- Project AWARE -- Learn about the plight of worldwide aquatic ecosystems and how you can protect them. This classroom-based course covers aquatic ecosystem degradation and the conservation measures protecting aquatic resources. This includes the Project AWARE philosophy, the importance and interdependence of worldwide aquatic ecosystems, current issues regarding fisheries, coastal zone management and marine pollution as well as the status of several critically degraded marine environments and how you can help.
- Project AWARE: Coral Reef Conservation -- Coral Reef Conservation Specialty course teaches divers, snorkelers and nondivers about the vital role of coral reefs in the marine environment. The course also familiarizes participants with the current state of the world's coral reefs and how they can help.
- Project AWARE: Fish Identification -- This course will introduce you to the most common fish families and species found in temperate and tropical waters. You'll also learn basic fish identification and scientific survey techniques as well as how important personal involvement is in aquatic conservation.
- Underwater Naturalist -- If you're interested in aquatic life then the PADI Underwater Naturalist Specialty course is for you. This course is an introduction to the underwater aquatic environment and will help develop safe and responsible aquatic life interaction techniques.
- Peak Performance Buoyancy -- Improve your buoyancy and underwater control with the Peak Performance Buoyancy course. It's also one of just 3 PADI specialties you can teach as an OWSI, Peak Performance Buoyancy is a must-take course. After all, if you're going to teach it, you'll want to have taken the class as a student first!
- Underwater Navigator -- One of the most important skills you need is the ability to navigate with a compass. You'll often have to rely on it to get you back to where you started. So take the class early in your internship and find your way to better training!
- Equipment Specialist -- If your gear is dirty, you're not only risking injury and shortening the life of your equipment, you're endangering the marine environment. Whether it's a regulator problem, a wet suit tear or a broken mask strap, the Equipment Specialist course can help. This Specialty course prepares you for the basic equipment maintenance, care and adjustments you'll encounter every day. In addition, you'll get the valuable background on equipment repair and purchase, making you better able to protect your investment.
