Aquanauts vs. Mermaid's: The Football Match
Aquanauts Dive Centre and Mermaid's Dive Center, friendly rivals in Pattaya's scuba diving community, now have a new battleground to compete on: The football pitch.
On Oct. 10, 2006, students from Aquanauts Diving Instructor Training internship program took on interns, instructors and staff member from Mermaid's. Underdogs to the more-experienced Mermaid's squad, which had played together recently in another Pattaya match, Aquanauts' small team took the challenge seriously, securing a team sponsor and showing up for the match in custom-made matching jerseys. They may not win the game, but they planned to look good trying.
Aquanauts scrappy team did better than just show up, however. Despite having only 14 players to choose from, the Aquanauts side kept the game tied for much of the match, finally dropping the contest 2-1 in 60 minutes of play.
Aquanauts wishes to thanks all the players from Mermaid's for a great, sporting match. We'd also like to thank Shane Wheatley and Pattaya's New Living Dolls 1 for sponsoring the team and providing its custom jerseys.
