Instructor Development Course & Exam -- September 2007
In line with our philosophy of small classes and Personalized Training, Aquanauts held instructor training for just two students in September, pairing them up with Course Director John Taylor and Master Instructor Gary Tytler. At the end of the two week marathon, both Paul Sparkes and Steve Rawlings were minted new PADI Open Water Scuba Instructors.
"We were really well prepared," said Sparkes, who previously worked at a hot-air balloon pilot in Tanzania. Sparkes sailed through the Instructor Exam, posting perfect marks in more than half of his 12 scores.
Rawlings, from the United Kingdom, also had little problems with the IE . . . once he'd overcome a surprise case of nerves. Despite the fact he'd been with Aquanauts for four months and seen many of his close friends go through it already, nothing compares to the feeling of actually getting into the pool with the Instructor Examiners.
"I was really surprised as just how nervous I was, but Gary was very supportive and helped me to calm down," Steve said.
Both Paul and Steve their training so much that they are staying on to do additional courses. Both are now working on their Master Scuba Diver Trainer certification and Paul will continue on to IDC Staff Instructor.
Check out the photos below taken on the Instructor Exam boat where both Steve and Paul receive their congratulations for passing their exams.
